The NeedDurocher Dock & Dredge was contracted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to perform extensive concrete repair work to be performed on one of the busiest ship locks in the world in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, during a two-month shutdown during the winter of 1999/2000. In order to perform this work, DD&D needed to find a way to provide an enclosed area that would protect the workers from the extreme elements and be heated to allow for the concrete work to be performed.
The Project
Structure size: 114' wide x 300' long (34.7m x 91.4m) with 80' (24.3m) endwalls to reach to
bottom of lock and completely enclose structure.
Accessories:
- Roller and track system to allow structure to be relocated without disrupting work flow.
- Telescoping end wall system to allow for variance in floor depth in lock.
- HVAC system to maintain warm, dry, interior working conditions.
- Designed in multiple phases to accommodate staggered work plan.
Customer Feedback"The structure choice is one we were thankful we made. The enclosure provided a heated, bright, and dry environment that enabled work to continue round-the-clock, seven days a week. Because of this successful Summit Structures application, we feel very comfortable with the product and recommend it with pride." - Gary Yacklin, Senior Project Manager, Durocher Dock & Dredge.
