The Need

After receiving approval from the state of Oklahoma for a Class II gaming facility, the Peoria Tribe of Indians began researching building solutions to support their vision.

The Solution

Summit Structures, an international steel-framed, fabric-membrane building supplier was chosen to manufacture and construct a 154' wide x 345' long (46.9m x 105.1m) gaming facility in a short period of time. Having just successfully completed another 70,000 sq. foot (6503.2 m²) casino in Oklahoma, Summit Structures was the obvious choice.

"Summit Structures was chosen because of cost effectiveness and aggressive construction timelines," says Robin Miller, Operations Manager, Buffalo Run Casino.

The Project

Measuring an approximate 54,000 sq. feet (5016.7 m²), the Buffalo Run Casino was delivered and constructed within the timelines outlined by the tribe.

"We are generally pleased with the rapid construction phase and the flexible interior design allowed for high ceilings within the building which provides good ventilation," says Miller. "And the exterior fabric is relatively low maintenance, only washing is required to sustain the outside appearance."

The Details

"Buffalo Run Casino is a dynamic casino entertainment complex located in Miami, Oklahoma. Open 24 hours a day, our spacious gaming floor offers over 700 gaming machines, the Coleman House Restaurant, The Snack Bar, High-Limit Room, and the Peoria Showplace, a 1500-seat event center," says Miller.

Summit™ Structures buildings can be custom-designed to create the ultimate atmosphere - from bright, patterned exteriors to upscale, Vegasstyle casino interiors. Summit's clear-span interiors are ideal for gaming facilities - as there are no support beams to work around. Architects designing the interior ambiance of the casino are free to work without the stresses of small areas and confined space.

Summit's custom-designed interiors create the ultimate atmosphere. The unique fabric-membrane can be designed to allow vast amounts of natural light inside the building to create the bright, airy environment; or to completely block the natural light allowing only the artificial lighting and brightness from the slot machines to illuminate the facility.

Buffalo Run Casino chose black-out liner for the interior - allowing zero light into the structure from the outside and providing that Vegas-style casino feel. The high ceilings in the casino building provide crisp, clear acoustics and superior ventilation throughout the building. Though the building itself is dark, the air remains fresh and clean.

The tribe chose an unlikely color scheme for the exterior fabric membrane of the building - accenting the uniqueness of the structure and raise curiosity to people driving by.

Fabric membrane structures are often thought of as temporary solutions to space problems while other facilities are constructed. Often times in the gaming industry, developers erect a fabric membrane structure to generate revenue while the larger, Vegas-style casino is constructed. When construction is complete, the temporary fabric facility is often turned into a smaller gaming space, warehousing, parking, etc.

The Buffalo Run Casino, however, will continue to accommodate gaming patrons in the Oklahoma area in their Summit™ Structures building. "The building will remain a permanent casino entertainment complex. The 1500-seat Peoria Showplace is northeastern Oklahoma's leading venue for superstar performances. From world renowned entertainers to sporting and special events, Buffalo Run Casino offers top entertainment year-round such as Rascal Flatts, ZZ Top, ESPN Boxing, Showtime Boxing and Ultimate Fights," says

Customer Feedback

"Summit Structures was the ideal choice for meeting our aggressive construction timelines. The exterior of the structure creates a uniquely aesthetic appearance while the clear-span interior incorporates architectural features resulting in a Las Vegas-style gaming facility," says Miller.
